What is Prana

PRANA is at the heart of every atom, cel and molecule

PRANA –  is the energy that sustains all life, consciousness, and existence

PRANA is a sanskrit word, which literally means “life force energy”. This energy flows through every living being, fueling every function of ourselves, both as spiritual and physical beings. It is pure source itself and vital to the existence of all living things. Its is the universal sea of energy that infuses and vitalizes all matter, and is the basic building block of all matter which manifests in the physical world.

PRANA is known in many different terms, Chi, Qi, Universal energy, Higher consciousness, The Holy Spirit, God-Energy, spiritual energy, life force, to name a few, i’m sure you get the idea !!

PRANA sustains us by moving through our energy channels in our subtle energy/astral bodies. when you visit your acupuncturist, or Ayurveda healer they will work to harmonize and strengthen the flow of Prana, when your life force flows correctly, the result will be that of a natural state of health and well being.

PRANA is linked to the breath, which flows up and down the spine in conjunction with the inhale and exhale of each breath, visualized as a pole meeting in the heart space. This breath is central to many meditation techniques, connecting us with our spirit body.

Prana energy flows through the bodies subtle energy channels called Nadis. The energy highway system of Nadis criss-cross the body, of which there are about 72,000. When the energy flows freely then the system works extremely well, but when a Nadis becomes blocked, then the flow of Prana energy to that region of the body is reduced or sometimes even cut off. The body needs the nourishment of this vital energy, without it that part of the body will weaken and become sick.

If you all too often feel exhausted or stressed, then your Prana intake may be iinsufficiant, in other words you are not breathing correectly. Many things can be at the root cause of this , such as, overwork, stress, negative relationships, sitting in front of the television for hours, or your computer, EMF’s, life in general. All of which will deplete the Prana energy of life. How many times have you heard that the positive ions of the ocean, or spending time in the countryside has being rejuvenating, thats because it has allowed you to take in the rich life giving energy of Prana, it is that which has recharged your Nadis batteries.

Finding balance is the key to a healthy channel for the Nadis to flow

Pranayama Meditative Breathing Exercise

A great way to re-boot your Prana is through the alternate nostril breathing technique. Using this method you will learn how to inhale through one nostril, retain the breath and exhale through the other nostril. The left nostril is the path of the Nadi called Ida and the right nostril is the path of the Nadi called Pingala. When your Prana is in top health you will unconsciously breath predominantly through the Ida nostril for about 2 hours, then through the Pingala nostril. The Pranayama Meditative Breathing Exercise that you will learn here today, equalizes and balances the flow of Prana in your subtle energy body.

The Pranayama Mudra

With your right hand adopt the Mudra to close your nostrils. Tuck your index and middle finger into your nose. Place the thumb by your right nostril and your ring and little fingers by your left.

  • Inhale through the left nostril, closing the right with the thumb, to the count of four
  • Hold the breath, closing both nostrils, to the count of sixteen
  • Exhale through the right nostril, closing the left with the ring and little fingers, to the count of eight.
  • Inhale through the right nostril, keeping the left nostril closed with the ring and little fingers, to the count of four.
  • Hold the breath, closing both nostrils, to the count of sixteen.
  • Exhale through the left nostril, keeping the right closed with the thumb, to the count of eight.

The Pranayama Meditative Breathing Exercises produces optimum function to both sides of the brain: Which in lay-man terms means, it will be feeding the logical left side of the brain, which is masculine and the creative right side of the brain, which is feminine, producing optimum creativity and optimum logical thinking. This in turn will create balance, with both sides of the brain working together in harmony.
